These appliances are fixed mechanical orthodontic devices where a band is set in the oral cavity and is combined with the device.
Typical devices include lingual arches, quad helix, nance holding arches, and rapid expansion devices.
In addition, there are various types of appliances which serve various purposes such as retention, enlargement, etc.
1. Retention after orthodontic treatment
2. Gap retention when laterals are missing at early stage
3. Main line when using hooks and springs
with Lingual Lock
with Sheath (for straight)
with 3D
1. Mainly used for tooth extraction cases to prevent mesial movement of molars. Often used in combination with brackets, it is used as a device for strengthening and fixing.
2. It is used as a fixing source to facilitate slight expansion and rotation of the molars.
1. Mainly used for tooth extraction cases to prevent mesial movement of molars. Often used in combination with brackets, it is used as a device for strengthening and fixing.
2. It is used as a fixing source to facilitate slight expansion and rotation of the molars.
1. Used for fixation, rotation, reduction, centrifugal movement, enlargement, and stenosis of maxillary molars.
2. Used for adjusting buccolingual root torque
1. Habit projecting tongue forward, abnormal swallowing habit, the anterior open bite, a device used to remove tongue habits such as maxillary protrusion and thumb sucking.
2. Can also be used for oral other habits.
1. Used for expansion of the maxillary dentition.
2. Used for rotation of molars
3. When activated, the molar group can be expanded. Also, by bending the wires on the inside and both sides, it is possible to rotate the molar teeth to the distal lingual side and leave a space between the canines.
Quad Helix with Sheath
Straight (Top)
Curve – MIA (Bottom)
1. Used for expansion of both the maxillary and mandibular dentition.
2. Used for rotation of molars
3. When activated, the molar group can be expanded. Also, by bending the wires on the inside and both sides, it is possible to rotate the molar teeth to the distal lingual side and leave a space between the canines.
1. It is used in the upper and lower jaws, and although there are some differences, it works almost the same as the quad helix and bi-helix. The main difference lies in that there are no helical bends, so the corrective force is slightly stronger.
1. Used to improve stenotic dentition and bilateral and unilateral crossbites.
2. Expansion screw capable of about 11mm activation with a metal-only expansion device, lingual arm for stability. Used with bands.
3. Fast activation (twice a day, 1/4 turn (0.4 mm) in the morning and evening, expansion completed in 14 days.
1. Used for lateral expansion (rapid)
2. Force is dispersed to the teeth and palatal mucosa. Ideal when expansion is required while avoiding teeth inclination.
Rapid Expansion (Fan Type)
1. Used for bilateral expansion
2. Used to eliminate overbite of upper and lower anterior teeth.
3. When there is vertical growth of the lower jaw, it can be used with the expectation of a reduction effect due to the bite plate of the molars
Rapid Expansion (Bulldozer)
1. It is a device that can expand laterally, rotate, mesio-distal and move teeth to the buccolingual side.
2. It has almost the same application as the quad helix and bi-helix using a band.
1. Used for the purpose of centrifugal movement of maxillary first molars. In order to use GMD, the maxillary first premolars and second premolars must be completely erupted. If there is space in the anterior teeth, it should be closed before using GMD.
2. Headgear can also be used with the cooperation of the patient. It can be improved in less than a year, but after this period, the basal part of the palatal tissue becomes inflamed. The space opens rapidly, so the same weak force as the removable type is sufficient for adjustment.
1. It is used for the purpose of uprighting the mandibular first molar and slightly centrifuging, expanding or rotating it.
2. It is possible to prevent lip pressure from being applied to the dentition. Allows the tongue to move the incisors anteriorly
3. The device consists of a labial wire inserted into the buccal tube of the first molar, the wire framework located 2-3 mm labial to the dentition , Pads (bumpers) have the role of protecting the lips from wire pain
1. Used for distal movement of maxillary molars
2. Lateral expansion (when using screws) is also possible
1. Used to enlarge the dental arch in all of the upper and lower jaws.
